If this angle is not close to or parallel to the ground then more stress, load is placed on either the front or rear axles for two or even three axle trailers.
Single axle trailers may pose a list of a combined vehicle and trailer safety risks that will not be discussed here since most equine trailers are dual or triple axle styles.
NOTE: Triple E's point of view is only based on our personal experience and how we conduct our business, so please use your best judgement. Please acquire proper training prior to trailering.

EQUINE STRESSERS
- What angle is your equine standing at travel?
It is our belief this is a direct result of the TOWING ANGLE; the equine should be on as level of a standing surface during travel as possible.
Equines experience enough documented and known stresses during transportation anyway so there should be no need to add more, right?

Equines experience enough documented and known stresses during transportation anyway so there should be no need to add more, right? Consider this, if the equine is favoring the front/ back (Straight/Box Loads) or even right/left side (for slant loads), the possibility of superficial injury or stress could be increased over a period, level surfaces are important in their normal environments anyways, so let us reduce the risk.

RIDING COMFORTABLY
- How do you provide comfort?
Well, this is always a great topic to discuss, providing the correct level of shavings is really a matter of personal opinion and preference. We believe that providing thick bulky piles and layers of shavings in the trailers only decreases the equines ability to maintain stability. This also may add to the dust factor as well and therefore increase potential respiratory concerns. These shavings are not designed to provide a primary comfort factor and may be portrayed as such. The primary comfort and stability factor mainly relies on the type of flooring used, a professionally designed trailer padding really provides the ultimate comfort and minimal slippage possible during transportation. Although nothing is full proof and there is always risk, taking these considerations and precautions may reduce those risk.
Footing is oh so important in the equestrian world, from training, competing and yes, even transporting so these seem to be very comparable, the looser the footing the more potential for injury can occur, i.e. shavings, chips, etc.), so no matter what style/types are used they really are not designed primarily for comfort but mainly to absorb the equines urine in an attempt to reduce slippage and make cleanup a bit easier.
Based on our evaluation and experiences we recommend only using enough as necessary so that the risk of unbalance and stability is minimal. Our equine passengers must rely on us to provide adequate proper trailering, flooring and footing during travel as we find this is one of the key components of equine transportation.

- How to keep the equines head down?
This is often forgotten and not looked at during transportation, but it depends on the trailer setup or style of transporting. There are two know facts here about feeding period but more importantly during the added stress of transportation. Primarily those HAYNETS or even HAYBAGS could be an injury waiting to happen, yes you can put them at a level to reduce the risk of the equine jumping or getting a foot into those nets. Consequently, that is not the only concern with those during transporting, yes normally in a stationary environment these items are placed at an average height for the equine, coincidentally right around the eye level so think about what can happen during transporting as all the moving around could easily get into the eye and the residual dust as well.
Second, equines are natural grazers so keeping their head down helps reduce the risk of Shipping Fever, this also comes with the experience in allowing the equine to lower their head properly and not tie or secure them too high.
Finally, we keep our hydration (water) bucket secured just above our locally custom designed hay baskets, in which sits at the should bar, this allows easy access for the equine to drink, dip the hay if necessary and the slight overspill of water helps keep any residual dust minimized and no potential injury to the eyes.
